IPL 2022 Latest Updates

The BCCI plans to start the 2022 IPL from the final week of March to the end of May, and it will make every effort to organize the prestigious event in India, according to team owners’ requests, Board secretary Jay Shah said on Saturday.

“I am delighted to confirm that the 15th season of the IPL will start in the last week of March and will run until May end. A majority of the team owners expressed their wish that the tournament be held in India”, Jay Shah stated in a press note issued by the BCCI.

“The BCCI has long been enthusiastic on hosting the 2022 edition, which will feature two new teams in India — Ahmedabad and Lucknow.” “I can assure you that we would go to whatever length to ensure that the IPL remains in India,” Shah stated.

According to sources who attended the meeting, the UAE and South Africa are backup options, but Shah emphasised that the health and safety of all stakeholders, including players and match officials, is a top priority for the board.

“The BCCI has never compromised on its stakeholders’ health and safety in the past, and it will continue to work on Plan B while the COVID-19 scenario with new versions remains uncertain.”

IPL 2022 Start date

The BCCI was considering two start dates for the upcoming IPL, with some preferring a March 27 start date and a few other powerful people preferring an April 2 start date, which would comply with the Lodha Committee verdict.

"Some of the owners prefer a March 27 start date, but India’s final international match against Sri Lanka is a T20I in Lucknow on March 18, and you need a 14-day gap as per Lodha rule, which is why April 2 is also an option for a start date,” a senior BCCI official said.

After three back-to-back bubbles in South Africa (away) and at home against West Indies and Sri Lanka, it’s expected that India’s players will be fatigued. “If players start the IPL within 10 days of finishing the Sri Lanka tour, the BCCI must take bubble fatigue into mind,” a BCCI insider said.

IPL 2022 Auction

David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Aswhin, Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Ishan Kishan, Suresh Raina, Pat Cummins, Adam Zampa, Steven Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Mark Wood, Trent Boult, Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, and Dwayne Bravo are among the big names on the list, which includes 17 Indians and 32 international players.

A total of 1214 cricketers have registered for the auction, comprising 270 capped players, 312 uncapped players, and 41 from Associate teams, and the list was given to the ten franchises on Friday. Once the franchises give back their wishlists, the IPL governing council will compile a final, trimmed list closer to the two-day auction, which will take place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.
